Hunting-Basic Survival Equipment

When hunting it is imperative that one carries the basic survival equipment. Whether the hunt takes place in the backyard property or on a hunt in familiar land basic survival equipment should be carried as if the hunter were in unfamiliar territory. The amount of equipment used for a bigger expedition of course would be greatly increased, but the main focus is on basic survival equipment. These are everyday items that should always be included.

1.     Compass and Map- Many outdoorsman become disoriented.  No matter what the reason for this disorientation inability is rarely the cause. A quick glance of the terrain and a compass can quickly solve this problem.  If on unfamiliar territory a compass can be used with a map to triangulate your location from land features. This is a very important tool in survival.

2.     Water bottle-The old saying goes “without food you can live for three weeks, without water you can only live three days”.  Food grows in the woods, much of which can sustain us. Water that is usually found in the woods has the potential to hurt us more than help, and should only be drank if in dire circumstances.

3.     Waterproof Matches and or a Butane Lighter (or two)- Fire has many uses as man has found through the centuries. It can keep you warm if lost, wounded or disoriented. Fire can signal to others a location with the use of the smoke.  Fire can also be very comforting psychologically in adverse conditions. It is very important to be able to create a fire.  Butane lighters are handy, can be dried if wet and have a flint built into them in worst-case scenarios, and they are light.

4.     Flashlight with Extra Batteries- A hunter never knows when the shot is going to be made available. Sometimes this is near last light. Without the use of a good flashlight, the hunt could end in the loss of a downed animal, not only is this bad for the name of hunting it can easily be avoided with a flashlight.  Some of which are specifically designed to show the blood trail. There are also the more likely uses such as getting out of the woods after last light or getting into stand before first light.

5.      Ground cloth of plastic or Mylar- In the event of injury or disorientation, sometimes it becomes necessary to stay in the wild overnight.  Fire can be a great advantage, add to this a place to sit that’s dry or a way to cover up from elements and survival can be greatly improved.

6.     Bandage, Tape and Band-Aids- A person can never know when they are going to become injured, and in the hunting fields and woods there are plenty of ways to become injured. Bow hunters carry sharp arrows and most all hunters carry knives. Having a few small items to repair or temporarily treat an injury can greatly improve comfort as well as survival.

7.     Whistle- mainly used for signaling in the event of injury or disorientation. The whistle can be heard for great distances and through thicker vegetation. The human voice can be loud but is easily broken up by forest cover and is no competition for the loudness of a good whistle. Whistles are also very handy in the event of predators, and they can be scared off by the shrill of a whistle. This can be very important if injured and in an area with Bears and Mountain Lions, that prey upon injured animals regularly.

Hopefully all of your hunting days will be safe and only result in a bountiful harvest. In the unfortunate event that things don’t go as we hope as hunters, be like the Boy Scouts and “Always Be Prepared”. Having a Basic Survival Kit put together in your hunting pack could make the difference between Survival and Disaster.

Tell me if you use any other basic survival equipment in your standard pack! I’m always trying to improve my experience and my gear!

Scouting is a word that is used in many ways in a multitude of businesses and sports. The meaning is the same.

Definition:Scouting-1 the action of gathering information about enemy forces or an area.
• the activity of a talent scout : [as adj. ] What does the scouting report say about Boston’s pitching this year?

Or What is the scouting report on the best businesses on the web?

The word Scout can bring forth to mind a plythora of different pictures. Some will see a boy with a kneckchief and badges, some will picture a cavalryman on a horse in old western, some will picture men in the bleachers with pen and pad taking notes on a football game. Whatever the picture in mind  their function was the same when you boil it down. Gathering information!

This morning I went into the woods in search of Turkey sign. I was scouting the area I think may have promise with the sole intention of learning more.  The intension was to learn so that I can better meet my end goal (harvest a Turkey)when the time was right( meaning once turkey season is here and I am legally licenced).

As I walked down a path in the woods I began to think of a correlation between hunting and the work I have spent for the last year or so investigating an online business to work with.  I like to walk the trails that are relatively clear when searching the woods at first, because I do not want to spook anything in the area, I am just looking for sign that they are there. When I was looking for a way to make a living on the internet I began by cautiously looking at different offers without clicking on anything because I was only looking for the offers and learning about them, not taking action (yet).

As I wound slowly and quietly down this path I found a crosstrail and could not decide whether I should follow it or continue in farther down the path I was on, this new trail held promise in the form of tracks, but they were not fresh as they were in hardened mud. This was a choice I had to make. Much like all of the offers I read about and the directions they would take me I had come to a juncture where a decision had to be made. I could stop in my tracks indecively or I could make a choice based on the information provided.

I chose to take the trail (and an internet program as it were). I wound my way for about 150 yards or so when I heard a gobble( I have to say it suprised me) and I froze, this is promising I thought as I waited in hopes of another call, and just as my hopes began to diminish I heard it again, ahead and to my left a small distance off.  I waited for a while and then I moved ahead to find that the path I had been on converged once again upon the trail I had taken. I learned the lay of the land a bit more though I came to a place both routes could have taken me. Funny thing is the internet program that I chose to use was one that kept popping up and crossing my path over and over again, each time with a bit more information that made it more appealing, I had compared it to many other programs I could have chosen but finally had to make a decision.

I waited longer and did not hear the gobble again and decided it was time to delve a little deeper to the sides of this crossroads. I walked slowly into the woods in the general direction I had heard the calls and came upon a small clearing. In the near center of the clearing was a huge dusting. For those of you that don’t hunt this is an area the gobblers often return to again and again as a kind of established spot. This is great sign.  Much like the program I chose to use to get my internet business going, I moved upon the decision and was rewarded with great information.

I decided at that point to back my way out of the woods slowly and I would check this area again a week before season and if the signs are the same I will take my chance here at least one day. This is the hardest part of scouting. Knowing that the goal is so close and cautiously stepping back to make a plan and to put it into motion without seeing the goal itself. Man I wanted to see a bird but I knew if I did I might spook him or change his habits to the point where I ruined my chance at harvesting him.

It was almost  the same way when searching the web for the internet program I wanted to use. I almost jumped on a few different programs before I researched them further and finally made an informed decision.

As it goes I did find a great program to help me launch my internet business and I have had wonderful success with the many great tools I found through this program. As for the Turkey, we shall see in the weeks to come.

Today is the first day of spring beginning officially at 7:44AM est. This is marked by the suns path crossing the celestial equator from south to north marking the earths renewal of spring in the northern hemisphere. It is also a great time to scout for deer returning to their summering grounds because of the new plants that start to spring up. It is time when the fish become more active as the hatches in the rivers and ponds begin to increase. It is a beautiful time of year to be alive and outside. Although the hunting opportunities themselves are minimized this time of year consisting  of Spring Bear, Spring Turkey and year round predators such as Coyotes and in some areas small game(check your local Division of Wildlife Management), this is the perfect time to practice with your Bow or Rifle, to Scout for the movements of Deer and Elk or to put in some time time at the private property you hunt in fall and winter. Land Owners love the help, you create a good relationship with them which improves the overall image of hunters and its a good way to learn more about the land your hunting . Enjoy Spring to its fullest! Happy Hunting and Fishing

There are literally hundreds of programs out there offering you the chance to own and run your own business making money online. Programs that promise the opportunity to get rich quick, to have that lifestyle you have always dreamed of and the chance at financial freedom. How does the average person make a solid decision on which home-based business program to choose?

First thing to know: Research can save you lots of time and money. It can be tedious and sometimes annoying to decide what work at home program you are going to use.

When looking at the website begin with the “Contact” link, check for an email address and send them an email with any questions their website may have risen for you. See how long it takes for a response and this can be a solid indication of the support you will receive from this program. Usually anything under 72 hours is OK but the sooner the better (auto-responders do not count). If you do not receive a relevant response from them, then avoid this program because they are either overloaded with requests or they are not in it to support your efforts. Check out any reviews you can find on the work at home program by looking through blogs and articles, scrutinize the blogs that scream out the word “scam” many of these will be nothing more than sales pitches for the programs or one of its competitors, some very informative websites use this header so read them and pick out the good information and disregard the rhetoric. Read the terms and conditions very carefully for any hidden costs, especially monthly fees. Many times sites will offer free trials, with the agreement that after the trial period ends a monthly fee will be assessed. Pay particular attention to any additional fees and be sure to incorporate them in your cost analysis. You might find that it is much more expensive to use some of these on-line business programs paying over time, versus paying an up front cost that may be slightly higher. Avoid the programs that send you a free disk in the mail with “all the materials you need”, Your starting an Internet business and if its on a disk then its on the computer thus it should be on a server and available to download for your membership fees. Look for the Money back guarantee especially one that is good for the longest amount of time.. If the site does not offer a money back guarantee do not put any money into it unless you plan on loosing that money. Programs that offer the best money back guarantee with the longest time periods usually prove to be the more sound work at programs. It shows that they are not afraid to refund and usually means that they do not have as many people asking for refunds even after longer periods have passed.

Second thing to know: Free and fast are two words that do not go together well when it comes to making money.

Any business that is based on the Internet or out in the physical world requires an investment, usually in the forms of time invested and money invested. The great thing about the Internet is that anyone can start at his or her own investment level and grow from there. Time invested in free marketing techniques takes time to yield results, whereas money spent on advertisement and marketing can see instant results. Be cautious of any home-based business program that promises they can deliver instant wealth without an investment. Remember, even playing the lottery for a chance at millions of dollars cost money. There are great ways to invest in an Internet business from home, the most sound of which is time spent. Most people who fail, do so because they do not spend the time necessary to follow the steps, and build their business “one brick at a time”, opting on the quickest approach possible and banking on a return. Even the smallest of things begin with blueprints and your business should be the same, blueprints that eventually yield a product such as a new toy or a new home or your new business If you are looking for quick riches stick with the Lottery. If you are looking for long-term income then the Internet is a great place to invest your time.

Third thing to know: Give a man a fish and he has a meal, teach him how to fish and he can eat for life.

The work at home program you are interested in should offer to teach you how to make a living on your own. If the program offers to do everything for you, then they are only helping themselves. Lets face it, no matter what program you choose, they are going to make money. The smart ones know that the more you make, potentially the more they make. Programs that promise to take care of everything for you, that offer to tell you exactly what to write and exactly what to do are only using your investment in time and money to further their own cause. Home based business programs that teach you how to think, that offer quality materials that teach you how to run your own online business with free support also offer you a long-term benefit of knowledge and understanding. Some programs offer both; these are the best programs to look for. They should offer tons of great information in a style, which allows the user to learn at their own pace. A great program offers FREE SUPPORT for questions or problems, beware of the mentoring programs that many programs offer (usually at a hefty fee) many times these programs broker your name out to affiliates who then try to use you to promote their products.

With the proper research, will come an answer to the question of which program to use to make money on the Internet. With proper understanding of your own personal situation an answer will form as to how you will invest in your own online business. With the proper support and your own personal tenacity will come the riches that you seek from any work at home program you choose.

Our hunting Heritage began so far back in human history that it is not easily trackable. It is known that we have hunted and gathered for food for as long as man has been in existence. It is not only a privilege but also an important part of being human. Our teeth are designed for both eating grain and vegetable matter as well as for tearing of meat. Our diet is based upon food groups that have always included meat. The right to gather that which is necessary for survival is a god given right. The right to bear arms is given to us through the constitution and the privilege to hunt is purchased usually with an inexpensive permit/license. The god given right to survival and the Constitutionally given right to bear arms along with a system of licensing (which in turn regulates and insures the future survival of game animals) gives us the opportunity to hunt. We as hunters fill an essential part of the Cycle of life and as we have learned from the past it is essential to maintain balance in this cycle. Just as we would never get rid of farmers who grow the food we eat, or the ranchers who raise the Animals we buy at market to eat, we cannot afford to loose hunters as a vital part of our word ecosystem.
